Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad and Arson Section detectives are investigating a house fire that killed a woman in Patchogue this evening.

Fifth Precinct officers and members of the Patchogue Fire Department responded to 75 Rider Ave. after a 911 caller reported an apartment fire at that location at 6:13 p.m. When the fire was extinguished, an adult female was located deceased in the residence. Three apartments were damaged in the fire.

The name of the deceased is being withheld pending positive identification. There was no one else in the residence at the time of the fire and no other injuries were reported.

A preliminary investigation has determined the cause of the fire to be non-criminal in nature.
