Suffolk County Police Third Squad detectives are investigating a crash that killed a woman and injured three others, one seriously, in Central Islip today.
A 2013 Hyundai Elantra was travelling eastbound on West Suffolk Avenue when the driver of the vehicle veered to the side of the road and struck the rear end of a parked flatbed truck at approximately 11:45 a.m.
A female occupant of the vehicle, who has not yet been identified by police, was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where she was pronounced dead. Three males were taken to the same hospital. One of the men, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, is in serious condition. The other two are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.
