Wednesday at approximately 3:10PM, Southampton Town Dispatch Center received a call for a man that had been electrocuted and needed immediate medical assistance.

Emergency Communications Operators immediately dispatched patrol units to the location on Lewis Road in East Quogue. Officers from Southampton Town and Quogue Village responded and rendered aid to the victim, until East Quogue Volunteer Ambulance arrived. Members of the East Quogue Fire Department also responded to assist with the scene.


The driver of a dump truck apparently struck utility wires and was electrocuted while exiting his vehicle. The driver, an 18 year old  male, was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.


Southampton Town Detectives and Southampton Fire Marshall’s are investigating the incident and Suffolk County Motor Carrier was requested for additional assistance.

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Mine Safety Health Administration is conducting their own investigation in to the accident, which occurred at the East Coast Mines and Material on Lewis Road.
