Just before midnight Suffolk Police, MTA LIRR Police and Patchogue Fire Department were called to the LIRR Montauk Line just east of the Patchogue railroad station after a vehicle was struck by a train.
The driver of the vehicle was trapped inside and needed to be cut free by firefighters. The victim, amazingly, was not seriously injured and rushed to a local hospital for treatment.
The Montauk branch was closed for a few hours while detectives conducted an investigation.
Nobody on the train was injured.
