Flanders, NY- Saturday night volunteers across eastern Long Island lined roads, hung flags and saluted the return of George Worthington Jr. and his wife Mary.  Weeks back the couple was tragically killed in a motorcycle crash in New Hampshire while on a trip with family and friends.

George has been a member of Flanders Northampton Volunteer Ambulance for over 3 decades and has served as chief, among other positions.

The pair returned to the island on the Orient Ferry and traveled west to Route 105 before ending at the EMS company’s HQ in Flanders, where dozens of firefighters, EMS workers and civilians lined the final stretch in a very fitting tribute to a man who gave his all to his community.

The couple, along with George Sr. who also recently passed away, will be laid to rest on October 4th.
