A strange chain of events has led Suffolk Police to a home with 2 dead bodies, presumably murdered, in Bellport.

This morning a Suffolk Police 5th precinct unit attempted to pull over a vehicle near the corner of Montauk Highway and Route 112 in Patchogue. That vehicle fled from police at a relatively low rate of speed, even stopping and discharging a passenger from the car.  The vehicle eventually crashed into a pole on Washington Ave but before officers got to the vehicle the man had slit his own throat. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

During the investigation, officers responded to his Doane Avenue home and, after nobody answered the door, they forced their way in.  Once inside detectives found two bodies in the home, a male and female.  Neighbors believe them to be the sister and father of the initial victim but police are not releasing names of deceased until positively identifying all three.  Police would only confirm that they appear to be related.

The normally quiet dead end street which borders the Village of Bellport was clogged with dozens of police, detective, crime lab units as well as the Police Command Post.  Detectives are expected to remain on scene most of the night.
