According to Suffolk Police, just after midnight a Suffolk Police 3rd pct unit was on scene of an initial DWI crash, on Suffolk Ave near Lukens Ave, when the officer’s SUV was struck in the rear. The impact pushed the officer’s vehicle onto the sidewalk in front of Grant Funeral Home. The officer was taken to Southside Hospital for treatment of non life threatening injuries.
After further investigation at the scene the female driver that slammed into the officer was arrested and also charged with DWI. Both drivers were led away in handcuffs from the scene and taken to the 3rd precinct for processing.
The roadway was closed for a brief accident investigation.
