Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad detectives are investigating a shooting that occurred in Mastic Beach on June 3. A man was shot in the leg outside of 86 Parkwood Drive at 7:42 p.m. He was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
A Seventh Precinct officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop of a vehicle at 7:48 p.m. at Mastic Beach Road and Mastic Road in Mastic Beach as part of the shooting investigation. The driver of the vehicle fled from the officer and was involved in a crash with another vehicle at the intersection of Moriches Middle Island Road and William Floyd Parkway in Shirley at approximately 7:50 p.m. No one was seriously injured.
The driver of the vehicle was charged with Unlawful Fleeing of a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle 3rd Degree, Reckless Driving and Endangering the Welfare of a Child (there was a teen in the vehicle at the time of the incident).
It is under investigation if the occupants of the vehicle were involved in the shooting incident.
