Suffolk County Police First Squad detectives are investigating a shooting that occurred in West Babylon on Thursday evening.

According to police, First Precinct officers responded to a 911 call of a man shot at a BP Gas Station on Sunrise Highway at approximately 6:05 p.m. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Sources say the man was shot one time in the upper back but was alert and conscious when he arrived at Good Samaritan Hospital.

Police searched the area with a K9 dog for evidence as officers taped off the gas station and auto body shop to the rear of the station.  

There is no word if the victim was targeted at this time.
