At 11:30am the Setauket Fire Department was called to 14 Franklin Ave after getting multiple calls for a large house on fire.
Upon arrival units were met with fire, being fueled by winds from the north, totally engulfing the large home.
One occupant was able to evacuate and could be seen standing with a small fire extinguisher even as the home collapsed onto itself. Multiple area fire departments were called in to assist. The fire moved so quickly firefighters made an exterior attack and in a short time the roof had collapsed into the home.
Suffolk Arson squad and Town of Brookhaven Fire Marshal’s office are working to determine the cause of the fire.
