A vehicle fleeing from Suffolk Police was involved in a crash late Tuesday night that killed an innocent driver.
The vehicle, a pickup truck, fled from a 6th pct unit that attempted to pull him, and a passenger, over in the Medford area. After a minor crash the vehicle fled west towards North Ocean Ave., and headed south. At the intersection of the South Service Road to the Long Island Expressway the truck crashed into the driver’s door of a car, sending both vehicles into the north bound lanes and coming to rest. The driver jumped out, leaving his seriously injured and ejected passenger in the roadway, and fled on foot.
Officers were quickly able to capture the man and take him into custody.
Unfortunately, the innocent driver was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Two other victims were taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment.
Suffolk Police Major Case Detectives and crime scene officers were called to the scene for an investigation. The roadway is expected to remain closed for most of the overnight.
Further details will follow in morning from Suffolk Police.
