At around 11:15am this morning Suffolk Police and the Central Islip Fire Department were called to 187 Hawthorne Ave in the Hawthorne Apartments for a reported structure collapse.
It appears the high winds got behind the brick wall on the east side of the building and pulled 2 floors of brick facade away from the building. The falling bricks crushed 6 cars parked in the parking lot.
Luckily nobody was walking or cleaning off those vehicles at the time of the collapse.
The Town of Islip Fire Marshal and Building Inspector were called to the scene to assess the stability of the building.
