UPDATE BY POLICE:
On Friday, October 16, 2020, at approximately 2:08PM, Southampton Town Emergency Dispatch Center
received a call for a head on collision on Montauk Highway near Tanners Neck Lane in Westhampton.
Responding patrol units found two vehicles involved in a head on crash and rendered aid to the
occupants. Westhampton Ambulance and a paramedic unit responded to provide medical assistance.
A woman, 63 of Remsenburg was driving a 2008 Honda CRV eastbound on Montauk Highway with
her dog, when a male, 89, of Cutchogue, driving a 2010 Honda Accord, westbound on Montauk
Highway crossed into her lane of travel causing the head on collision.
CPR was being performed on
both drivers as they were transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center where they were sadly
pronounced. The dog was taken by Southampton Town Animal Control to receive medical
treatment for injuries.
The accident is still being investigated by Southampton Town Police Detective Division to determine the
exact cause.
