Just after 2pm the Middle Island Fire Department was alerted for a fire in an apartment complex on Fairview Circle.
Upon arrival units had heavy fire showing from multiple units and heavy smoke throughout the structure. Multiple area departments were called to the scene to assist in fighting the fire. At one point part of the 2nd floor collapsed into the 1st floor forcing firefighters to back out for safety reasons.
The fire is under investigation by the Town of Brookhaven Fire Marshal’s office. All occupants were able to evacuate safely prior to fire department arrival.
