A driver is lucky to be alive after a freak accident late Sunday afternoon in Selden.  The accident happened on North Ocean Ave near Mooney Pond Rd. just after 3:30pm.

The driver lost control on the wet roadway and slammed into a guard rail on the left side of the road.  The guard rail entered the front of the car, exited the dashboard and traveled between the driver and passenger seats before exiting the vehicle through the rear.

Although trapped in the vehicle, the driver was suffering only minor injuries.  After extrication by Selden FD the driver was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The vehicle traveled around 30 feet along the guard rail before coming to rest.
