At around 11:40am this morning the Levittown FD was alerted to smoke and flames coming from the Good Shepherd Church at 3434 Hempstead Tpke.
Upon arrival units had fire showing through the roof of the church.
Firefighters were able to make entry and get ladder trucks to the roof of the building. The fire was brought under control in under an hour but not before serious damage was done by the fire, smoke and water. One firefighter was transported to a local hospital for unknown injuries. Firefighters could be seen bringing out church items for safekeeping.
Fire Marshals are investigating the cause of the fire which appears to have started around a chimney.
