Driver of Crash Located 8 Hours Later

Suffolk County Police arrested a Port Jefferson man for a motor vehicle crash that occurred in Smithtown last night.  A vehicle was traveling eastbound on Route 25, near Old Willets Road, when it left the roadway, hit the guardrail, struck and severed a utility pole and came to a stop in a ditch off the roadway. The vehicle caught fire and became fully engulfed. Members of the Smithtown Fire Department extinguished the fire. Following an investigation, police located the driver in the vicinity of the Fourth Precinct in Hauppauge on September 29 at approximately 8 a.m. Christopher Steiner, 21, of Port Jefferson, was arrested and charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Property Damage.
