Suffolk Police 6th precinct officers were called to Port Jefferson Harbor after a report of a person in the water. Upon arrival unit located the victim who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Homicide detectives are investigating the body that washed up near Danfords Hotel and Marina in Port Jefferson at approximately 3 p.m. on January 28. Detectives said a man in his 40s was discovered in the water and it is not believed to be criminal in nature.
Emergency Services officers assisted Marine Bureau in removing the victim.
An autopsy will determine the cause of death.
