Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed two men in Yaphank last night.
A 2004 Chevrolet Suburban heading northbound on William Floyd Parkway, stopped for the red light at the intersection Yaphank Woods Road, when a 2017 Honda Accord crashed into the rear of the vehicle at approximately 7:30 p.m. The impact of the crash sent the Suburban into the intersection where it struck a 2018 Nissan Maxima.
The Honda driver, 41, of Mastic Beach, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. The driver of the Chevy, 70, of Yaphank, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Maxima was transported to the same hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
A long stretch of William Floyd Parkway was closed in both directions between Longwood Rd. and the Long Island Expressway for most of the night. All three vehicles were impounded for safety checks.
