Wednesday afternoon the Riverhead Town Police were called for a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Horton Avenue, and Reeves Avenue, involving a 1998 Freightliner Dump Truck and a 2017 Buick SUV.
The dump truck, owned by Danny’s Cesspool Inc., being operated by a 26 year old male from Wading River was north bound on Horton Avenue going through the intersection of Horton Avenue, and Reeves Avenue, striking the 2017 Buick SUV. The 2017 Buick SUV being operated by a male, 85 years of age, with female passenger 86 years of age, both from Calverton, were west bound on Reeves Avenue when stuck by the truck.
The preliminary investigation indicated that the 2017 Buick SUV failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Horton Avenue, and Reeves Avenue, causing the accident. The driver of the Buick was pronounced deceased on scene. The passenger was air lifted to Stony Brook University Hospital by a Suffolk County Police Aviation Helicopter for non-life threatening injuries. The truck driver was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center by Riverhead Town Ambulance for minor injuries.
The Riverhead Town Detective Division as well as the Suffolk County Police Motor Carrier Unit and Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene for further investigation. Both vehicles were impounded pending a safe check.
